Is there a GLP-1 diet?
No. The 2025 joint advisory sets priorities rather than a fixed diet: getting enough nutrients from a much smaller amount of food, with a variety of nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lean proteins, nuts and seeds.[1] The Dietary Guidelines for Americans describe the same general pattern for everyone.[2]
What principles shape the list?
- Protein at each meal, because a smaller appetite can quietly cut protein intake and lean mass matters during weight loss.[1]
- Fibre and fluids — the advisory encourages both for constipation, which is common with weight loss.[1]
- Fluids through the day: the labels warn that vomiting or diarrhoea can lead to dehydration.[3][4]
- Smaller, simpler meals. The labels say these medicines slow stomach emptying;[3][4] the advisory notes that smaller, more frequent meals, and avoiding fatty or high-fibre foods in the first few days of treatment, can ease nausea.[1]
What could go in the basket?
| Shelf | Examples | Why it is on the list |
|---|---|---|
| Protein | Eggs, chicken or turkey, fish, tofu, tempeh, lentils | Protein in small portions[1] |
| Dairy | Plain yoghurt, kefir, cottage cheese, milk or fortified soy drink | Protein and calcium, easy to eat |
| Vegetables | Leafy greens, peppers, courgette, carrots, frozen mixed vegetables | Fibre and micronutrients[1] |
| Fruit | Berries, apples, bananas, frozen fruit | Fibre; easy snacks |
| Grains and legumes | Oats, whole-grain bread, brown rice, chickpeas, beans | Fibre and steady energy[1] |
| Nuts and seeds | Unsalted nuts, seeds, nut butter | Nutrient-dense in small amounts[1] |
| Drinks | Water, sparkling water, unsweetened tea | Fluids without added sugar |
Examples only, not a prescription. If you have diabetes, kidney disease, allergies or a special diet, ask your clinician or a registered dietitian what to change.
What does PepLabo not do?
PepLabo does not plan meals or build shopping lists for you, and it does not mark any food as allowed or forbidden. It records what you eat and drink so you and your clinician can see the pattern.
